A total of 917 Americans have been killed by gun violence since the Sandy Hook shooting one month ago. Many others have been injured. Here are three of their stories, as reported by “The War Room”:
Marty Kent, 17, was killed in front of his home in Modesto, California on January 9. The teenager jumped in front of a bullet reportedly meant for his mother, who was on her front porch, confronting a group fighting outside her house when someone pulled a gun on her. Marty took the bullet instead and died in her arms.
Steven Curtis, 12, from Breckenridge, Missouri, was taken off a respirator on January 12. The day before, Steven somehow got into a locked gun safe and shot himself. The sheriff and family says it was an accident. His mother told the local CBS affiliate that Steven loved the outdoors and even had a hunter’s safety certificate.
Kuadir Simon, 2, was shot on January 10 in a New York City park along with his father. Luckily, both survived. The boy’s mother told a reporter that Kuadir opened his eye in the hospital after she told him she loved him.
